Thanks for the demo. But, Emil, it hangs my nv6600gt. Sorry, i dont know how and where... i just delete aperture textures and run the demo, after few seconds i see blue screen with problems in nv display driver.

This is somehow close to Frost Self Shadowing. It was designed for xbox1 (ps 1.1) in 2004.

Well, the attenuation is not that pronounced in this demo because I wanted to highlight the soft shadows, so I didn't want the light to turn dark very quickly.

Hey, looks really cool, though it seems that lighting is somewhat weird... What I mean is that peaks of the bumps are lightened brightly even when the light itself is distanced far away from them, so that both attenuation and dot product factors should be very low...
