"You may be sure that when a man begins to call himself a realist, he is preparing to do something he is secretly ashamed of doing."

You can borrow games (ps2 etc) at the library in sweden.
The news that online sales went up 30% in a week after IPRED was pure lobbyism. Anyone should realize that it's not plausable why it would rise so much in just a week. So many pirates suddenly turned non-pirates and just had to fill the void after just 3 days? It's sad that .se main news sites like dn.se didn't critize the sources.

I am also a graphics programmer. And what I see is that only owners of the companies benefit from copyright. The society as whole and ordinal people does not. And absence of copyright will lead us only to more dynamic world (well I can also be wrong). But I think not many of us can adapt to constant changes. The copyright is the mechanism that slows adoption of new technologies and give us time to accept new technologies. But if we want to move faster and achieve more in less time we should remove some restrictions that are limiting us. And copyright is without doubt one of them.

Personally, my biggest issue is that "they" keep going after the little people, like you and me.
They should just continue to focus on the big pirate distributors, and leave the small downloaders alone.

It's still not morally or legally right, but as you pointed out it's near impossible to stop.

I don't think the fog was really "raytraced". If you rasterize you can calculate its position in world space and then calculate how much of the fog volume is intersected by the line from it to the camera.

It's essentially exactly the same thing that Crytek does today.

It's funny. I also played through Unreal in the last days after a few years of not touching it. The atmosphere is very unique - even today.

...and true volumetric fog (raytraced in realtime). AWESOME GAME!

It was such a great game, with a very nice single player campaign too. But it came out at a bad time and was eclipsed by the second part of other more popular franchise.

Very nice software renderer too - I think it was the first one that did 32bpp with colored lightning, fog, pseudo texture-filtering (sampling jitter I think) and a few other things.

They fixed that? Great! (Time to upgrade my drivers.)

Nvidia's original 3.0 drivers silently ignored the forward compatible bit (a situation oddly similar to their GLSL compiler accepting Cg code) and they did make a comment in the spirit of "our customers want GL2.1 so we'll keep that around".

Another question: if a) you set the forward compatible flag when b) ARB_compatibility is avalaible, will deprecated functions raise INVALID_OPERATION errors?
